3 Days Mount Meru Climbing Adventure

Embark on a thrilling 3-day trek to the summit of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain. This challenging hike rewards adventurers with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and rich wildlife sightings along the way.

Day 0: Arrival

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Briefing on the next day’s climb will be conducted in the evening. Overnight stay in Arusha.

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast, drive from Arusha to Arusha National Park and begin the trek at Momella Gate. Hike through savannah and montane forests, spotting wildlife like giraffes, buffaloes, and warthogs. The day ends at Miriakamba Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

• Elevation Gain: 1,000 meters (from 1,500m to 2,500m)
• Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

After breakfast, continue the ascent through the lush forest before reaching the moorlands and heath zones. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Saddle Hut, where you’ll have an opportunity for an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) in the afternoon.

• Elevation Gain: 1,050 meters (from 2,500m to 3,550m)
• Hiking Time: 3-5 hours

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak and Descent

Summit day! Wake up early and hike under the stars towards Socialist Peak (4,566m), the summit of Mount Meru. The final ascent is steep and challenging, but the views from the top are breathtaking. After enjoying the sunrise, descend back to Saddle Hut for breakfast, then continue descending to Momella Gate, where the trek ends. Transfer back to Arusha for an overnight stay or departure.

• Elevation Gain: 1,016 meters (from 3,550m to 4,566m)
• Elevation Loss: 2,016 meters (from 4,566m to 1,500m)
• Hiking Time: 10-12 hours
